Looking for an Upwork Alternative?

Once we launch a website in Webflow for a client, questions inevitably come up. Mainly, they want to know what they can safely manage themselves and what will require ongoing help from us. These are some common questions we hear from clients after their site goes live, along with answers that explain what Webflow can do and what it’s like to maintain your site over time.
Yes. Our clients own their website content, design assets, copy, images, and branding. Webflow is simply the platform the site is built and hosted on. Your database, CMS items, and site files are exportable in various ways, and you can download backups or export code (with the exception of CMS and Ecommerce functionality, which do not export as-is because they rely on Webflow’s database environment). In practice, most businesses choose to remain on Webflow because of the editing experience and performance benefits, but ownership of your intellectual property remains yours.
However, when you work with Peak Digital, you have the option of keeping us in your back pocket. We offer various Webflow maintenance and improvement plans and are happy to continue to manage your site for you. This is a great option for busy business owners!
The Webflow Designer is the advanced workspace used to build and structurally modify the website. Think of it as the “workshop” where layouts, interactions, global styles, classes, and components are created and maintained.
The Webflow Editor is designed for day-to-day site management and content updates. Most business owners primarily use the Editor to update copy, images, blog posts, team profiles, case studies, and other CMS-powered content without touching the underlying design. Our team at Peak Digital Studio typically sets clients up with Editor access so you can safely manage updates while we remain available for structural or design-level changes in the Designer when needed.
Yes. Webflow allows multiple collaborators depending on your plan. Team members can be added with Editor access so they can log in, make content updates, and publish approved changes. Many clients give access to a marketing lead, communications manager, or operations team member. If you have a larger team or need role-based permissions, we can help you choose the right Workspace and Site plan combination so collaboration stays simple and organized.
You can export static code and host it elsewhere, but most businesses benefit from keeping hosting on Webflow. Hosting includes built-in performance optimization, a global CDN, SSL encryption, automated backups, and publishing workflows tied directly to the CMS. If your site relies on CMS Collections, Ecommerce, or dynamic content, those features only function on Webflow hosting. For the majority of clients, keeping the site hosted in Webflow provides the best reliability, speed, and editing experience.
It is possible to transition off Webflow, but it typically requires rebuilding key parts of the site in a new platform. Static site pages can be exported, but CMS structures, dynamic collections, and interactions need to be recreated because they are platform-specific.
We generally recommend thinking of Webflow as your long-term system of record rather than a temporary platform. That said, nothing about your content or brand is locked in, and if a platform change is ever needed, we can advise you on the cleanest path forward.
The Editor allows you to click directly on content and make updates in context. You can edit headlines, body copy, images, links, and CMS entries without touching layout or structure. Global elements such as buttons, typography, spacing, and colors remain protected. This allows you to update real-world content without accidentally changing the design system. If you ever feel unsure, you can update a draft, save it, and review before publishing.
Yes. If your site uses Webflow CMS, adding new content is as simple as filling in fields in a structured entry form. You can add titles, images, body text, categories, metadata, and any custom fields we’ve designed for your content model. Once published, the post automatically appears in the correct section of your website, using the existing visual layout. This keeps your content consistent while making ongoing publishing easy.
A CMS Collection is a structured dataset that powers repeating content types. For example, blog posts, portfolio projects, team members, menus, locations, or testimonials. Each item in a Collection follows the same layout, which means you can create new entries without manually designing new pages. You simply fill in the content fields and Webflow formats it automatically.
Yes. You can save drafts, schedule CMS posts to publish at a future date, or update content ahead of time and push it live when you’re ready. This is especially useful for announcements, press releases, campaigns, or seasonal content that needs to launch on a specific timeline.
Webflow includes automatic version history and backups. If something is published accidentally or a change doesn’t look right, we can restore a previous version of the site or revert a CMS entry. We also recommend reaching out to us if something feels off. We’re always happy to help troubleshoot and ensure everything looks and functions the way it should.
Some minor rearranging is possible inside CMS content, but major layout changes should typically be handled in the Designer. This helps maintain responsive layouts and accessibility standards across devices. If you know you’ll need modular flexibility, we can design reusable components or “section templates” that make it easier to expand pages over time without compromising design quality.
Generally, content updates, image swaps, CMS entries, and basic text edits are safe for you to manage. Structural layout adjustments, new templates, global style changes, custom code, and complex interactions are better handled by our team.
We approach each build so that you can make everyday updates independently while ensuring the more technical layers remain stable and professionally maintained.
Yes. Pages and CMS templates can be cloned and repurposed, which is often helpful for landing pages, new service pages, or campaign content. We typically recommend letting us create these when they involve a new strategy or layout so we can ensure consistency, accessibility, and performance remain strong.
Global components are intentionally controlled at the system level because they affect the entire site. If you need to update navigation items, footer links, or shared UI elements, we’re happy to help make those changes so everything updates cleanly across all pages.
Webflow includes built-in fields for SEO metadata and social sharing previews. You can edit titles, meta descriptions, and OG content at both the page and CMS template level. We often provide recommended defaults when we launch your site, and we’re available to support you with ongoing SEO optimization as your business evolves.
Yes. Webflow automatically generates a sitemap, supports clean semantic markup, and gives you direct control over metadata, alt text, and canonical tags. Combined with fast hosting and a global CDN, it provides a strong technical SEO foundation.
In most cases, yes. Webflow sites benefit from optimized hosting, caching, and asset delivery via a global CDN. Performance always depends on design decisions, image optimization, and how content is implemented, which is why we build with speed, accessibility, and responsiveness in mind from day one.
Tracking tools can be added via project settings or custom code embeds, depending on the platform. We frequently help clients connect Google Analytics, Search Console, Meta Pixel, HubSpot, and other marketing tools so reporting and measurement remain accurate.
Yes. Webflow includes native Ecommerce capabilities for certain use cases, and it can also integrate with third-party checkout tools when more advanced functionality is needed. If you plan to sell online, we’ll help you determine whether Webflow Ecommerce or an external platform makes the most sense for your business model.
Absolutely. Webflow integrates well with CRMs, email marketing tools, and automation platforms such as Zapier and Make. Form submissions can be routed to your CRM, newsletter lists, or workflows, making it easier to connect your website activity with your broader marketing ecosystem.
No. One of the biggest advantages of Webflow is that core platform updates and security maintenance are handled automatically. You don’t need to manage plugins, run version updates, or worry about patching vulnerabilities yourself. This significantly reduces long-term maintenance overhead for most businesses.
Yes. SSL is included by default, and sites are automatically backed up. Backups can be restored when necessary, providing an additional layer of protection and peace of mind.
Webflow hosting is built to scale and can typically handle significant traffic surges without performance drops. This makes it well-suited for campaigns, press coverage, event launches, and high-visibility moments.
If something appears off or you’re unsure whether it’s a platform issue or a content change, your first call should be to us. As your development partner, we can quickly diagnose whether the issue relates to design, content, hosting, or configuration, and we’ll coordinate with Webflow support if needed.
We design Webflow websites with the long game in mind to give business owners the confidence to manage day-to-day updates while knowing they still have a trusted partner for structural changes, strategy decisions, and ongoing growth.
Our approach is collaborative and transparent. We build sites that are easy to maintain and we stay available when you need support, whether that’s adding new functionality, improving performance, or evolving your content and messaging as your organization grows. If you’re considering a new Webflow build or want a site that feels easier to manage after launch, we’d love to talk about how we can help.
